Helsinki, Finland – Geyser Batteries has won the Start-up track of the New Energy Challenge sixth edition; a competition for start-ups and scale-ups, jointly organized by Get in the Ring, Rockstart, Shell and YES!Delft.

The New Energy Challenge is designed for entrepreneurs in Europe and Israel who are developing advanced technologies and disruptive solutions that could be vital in accelerating the energy transition. After hundreds of applications from Europe and Israel, ten finalists working to accelerate the clean energy transition were selected to pitch their innovative energy solutions to the New Energy Challenge jury of experts. In the two weeks before decision day, the finalists received various online training courses and workshops to improve their proposition. These interactive sessions prepared the top ten for their final pitch to the jury, which took place just before the live broadcast of the finals event on October 28th, during which the winners were unveiled. Although there was a live audience present at this year’s finals event, all the finalists participated digitally.

As the winner of the Start-up track, Geyser Batteries is admitted to the Shell GameChanger programme. The programme helps companies with early-stage technologies reach the next level. Founded in 1996, the Shell GameChanger programme has interacted with more than 5,000 innovators around the world, helping them turn more than 150 ideas into reality, and actively collaborate with technology development partners around the world.

“It’s clear that the finalists came highly prepared – the pitches were of extremely high quality. The innovations are relevant for both the New Energy Challenge and for Shell”, says Joep Huijsmans, General Manager Power of Shell Global Solutions International.

“This year we have again been deeply impressed by the talent and innovation that the finalists have demonstrated. Every one of them is working on promising solutions for the energy transition”, says Geert van de Wouw, Managing Director of Shell Ventures.

“We are excited and honored to receive this award. We are thrilled that Geyser Batteries’ innovative electrochemistry has received such a high-profile acknowledgement for its game-changing potential in the energy storage market! It’s been an exciting journey for the whole Geyser’s team so far, but the most interesting part is yet to begin. The Shell GameChanger Programme offers us the tools needed to speed up the transformation of our innovation stack into commercial products for our fast-growing customer pipeline”, says Andrey Shigaev, CEO of Geyser Batteries.
